One of the first things we learn to do growing up is asking questions. By asking questions, we gain knowledge about the world around us. That is how we communicate with others, make new acquaintances abroad, and get by daily.
What – 什么 (shén me)
Example: 你在做什么？(Nǐ zài zuò shénme?)
What are you doing?
Where – 哪里 (nǎ lǐ) / 哪儿 (nǎr)
Example: 你住在哪里？(Nǐ zhù zài nǎlǐ?)
Where do you live?
When – 什么时候 (shén me shí hou)
Example: 你什么时候回来？(Nǐ shénme shíhou huílái?)
When will you come back?
Why – 为什么 (wèi shén me)
Example: 你为什么不喜欢吃蔬菜？(Nǐ wèi shénme bù xǐhuān chī shūcài?)
Why don’t you like to eat vegetables?
How – 怎么 (zěn me)
Example: 你怎么学习中文？(Nǐ zěnme xuéxí zhōngwén?)
How do you study Chinese?
How much/many – 多少(duō shǎo)
Example: 你有多少钱？ (Nǐ yǒu duōshǎo qián?) – How much money do you have?
Who – 谁 (shuí)
Example: 这个人是谁？(zhè gè rén shì shuí?)
Who is this person?
Which – 哪个 (nǎ gè)
Example: 你喜欢哪个颜色？(Nǐ xǐhuān nǎgè yánsè?)
Which color do you like?
Whose – 谁的 (sheí de)
Example: 这是谁的手机？(Zhè shì sheí de shǒujī?)
Whose phone is this?
How- 怎么样 (zěnme yàng)
Example: 你觉得我的汉语怎么样？(Nǐ jué de wǒde hànyǔ zěnme yàng?)
