Understanding verbs and the prepositions that go with them is crucial for navigating the complexities of the Chinese language. They provide a deeper level of meaning when combined, enabling more complex and subtle expression. These frequently used verbs and prepositions will improve your everyday Chinese conversation.
等 (děng) – “to wait”
- 等待 (děng dài) – “wait for”
Example: 人生路上有风有雨,到处是荆棘丛生,只有我们去奋斗,去拼搏,就一 定会有鲜花和掌声在等待着我们。(Rénshēng lùshàng yǒu fēng yǒu yǔ, dàochù shì jīngjí cóngshēng, zhǐyǒu wǒmen qù fèndòu, qù pīnbó, jiù yīdìng huì yǒu xiānhuā hé zhǎngshēng zài děngdàizhuó wǒmen.) – “There are winds and rains on the road of life, and there are thorns everywhere. As long as we struggle and fight, there will be flowers and applause waiting for us.”
想 (xiǎng) – “to think”
- 想到 (xiǎng dào) – “think of”
- Example: 我没有想到这个问题。(Wǒ méiyǒu xiǎng dào zhège wèntí.) – “I didn’t think of this issue.”
依赖 (yīlài) – “to rely”
- 依赖于 (yīlài yú) – “rely on”
- Example: 我们依赖于技术。(Wǒmen yīlài yú jìshù.) – “We rely on technology.”
参与 (cānyù) – “to participate”
- 参与 (cānyù) – “participate in”
- Example: 他参与了这个活动。(Tā cānyù le zhège huódòng.) – “He participated in this event.”
关心 (guānxīn) – “to care”
- 关心 (guānxīn) – “care about”
- Example: 她非常关心这件事情。(Tā fēicháng guānxīn zhè jiàn shìqing.) – “She cares a lot about this matter.”
帮助 (bāngzhù) – “to help”
- 帮助 (bāngzhù) – “help with”
- Example: 我可以帮助你学中文。(Wǒ kěyǐ bāngzhù nǐ xué Zhōngwén.) – “I can help you learn Chinese.”
询问 (xúnwèn) – “to ask”
- 询问关于 (xúnwèn guānyú) – “ask about”
- Example: 他询问关于工作的详情。(Tā xúnwèn guānyú gōngzuò de xiángqíng.) – “He asked about the job details.”
投资 (tóuzī) – “to invest”
- 投资于 (tóuzī yú) – “invest in”
- Example: 许多人投资于股市。(Xǔduō rén tóuzī yú gǔshì.) – “Many people invest in the stock market.”
关注 (guānzhù) – “to pay attention”
- 关注 (guānzhù) – “focus on”
- Example: 他一直关注他的研究。(Tā yīzhí guānzhù tā de yánjiū.) – “He has always focused on his research.”
接触 (jiēchù) – “to contact”
- 接触 (jiēchù) – “get in touch with”
- Example: 我已经接触那家公司的经理。(Wǒ yǐjīng jiēchù nà jiā gōngsī de jīnglǐ.) – “I have already gotten in touch with the manager of that company.”
讨论 (tǎolùn) – “to discuss”
- 讨论关于 (tǎolùn guānyú) – “discuss about”
- Example: 我们讨论关于未来的计划。(Wǒmen tǎolùn guānyú wèilái de jìhuà.) – “We discussed plans for the future.”
